Family Self Sufficiency Program - FSS

The Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority (RRHA) offers a HUD approved Family Self Sufficiency Program (FSS). The FSS program gives residents of public housing and Section 8 an opportunity to increase their economic independence and, in many cases, save money for their family’s future. RRHA and local community agencies help residents find the resources needed to succeed on their road to economic self-sufficiency.

The agencies listed below work closely with RRHA to provide opportunities and assistance for public housing residents. RRHA values the working relationship with each partner and the expertise they bring to each community.

Boys and Girls Club of Roanoke Valley

The Boys and Girls Club of Roanoke Valley provides a safe place to learn while offering tutoring and homework assistance as well as classes in arts, crafts, dance and photography. The Club also sponsors athletic programs. One of the club’s focuses is Project Learn which uses homework help, tutoring, high yield learning/leisure activities, goal setting and parental/school support to improve academic performance among youth from disadvantaged circumstances.

New Century Venture Center

The New Century Venture Center is the only certified small business incubator operating in the region and is a part of a statewide network of small business incubators. Its programs are recognized and financially supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
